Kristi
Weltner Redd has been involved with horses
for over 25 years. She began showing western pleasure
and horsemanship as a child. Her interest later expanded
to hunt seat and jumping, then to dressage. Ms. Redd
is currently a professional trainer and instructor
using dressage principles to instruct riders of all
disciplines. The study of dressage helped her understand
the importance of the rider's body awareness. She
had observed problems with students who were not lacking
athleticism, but still appeared "stiff and rigid"
in the saddle. Kristi began consulting with her brother
Dan, regarding her own fitness regimen, and he developed
exercises for her and her students. He helped her
to educate these students on the importance of "accepting"
the movement of the horse into the rider's body. Riders
who used these exercises to increase their muscular
efficiency, have greater success in functioning as
"one" with the horse. Through this insight,
the Equi-Stretch® method of exercise was created.
Kristi holds a Bachelor's Degree in Equine Science
from Otterbein College, Westerville, Ohio. She is
also a NARHA (North American Riding for the Handicapped
Association) Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.
