Equi-Stretch® is a method of unmounted exercises designed specifically for riders of all disciplines. This system targets the riding muscles and focuses on the body isolations that are used while in the saddle. Riders work regularly to improve the performance of their equine partners through training that is designed to enhance the athletic ability of the horse. Yet how can horses arrive at strong, supple and balanced self-carriage if their riders are not also training toward this same goal? The Equi-Stretch® method is intended to improve the rider's overall strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness, in order to enhance the rider's physical connection with the horse.

LEVEL ONE DVD
A 35-minute home workout, taught by professional movement instructor Dan Weltner, Equi-Stretch® is designed to enhance the rider's muscular efficiency. From beginner to Grand Prix, Equi-Stretch® is comprised of specific exercises which target key areas for equestrians. This DVD is a great place to start your Equi-Stretch training program and offers some intermediate and advanced variations to help challenge and chart your progress. Also, there’s no need to be entirely proficient at Level One to cross train with Level Two. We simply recommend that you become familiar with Level One and The Seated Workout exercises first, before introducing Level Two into your program.

  • Strengthen upper body and postural muscles
  • Learn pelvic isolation
  • Develop greater range of motion
  • Gain stability in the legs
  • Build stronger abdominals
  • Increase overall body awareness

Includes a 5-minute pre-riding warm up.

LEVEL TWO DVD
A specialized extension of the concepts introduced in Level One. This detailed 40-minute home workout is designed to challenge equestrians from all disciplines to train more specifically, and progress to the next level. The Level Two workout uses deeper muscle groups; therefore, the training and body isolations within Level One should be learned first.

  • Implement deep internal rotation
  • Enhance peripheral awareness
  • Refine proper positioning
  • Promote clear neutral alignment

THE SEATED WORKOUT DVD
In this edition, Dan Weltner instructs a 20-minute home workout that is performed while seated in a chair. Tailored to riders and non-riders alike, this non-impact fitness alternative can be used as an introductory exercise routine or as an effective cross training device. This workout also includes some fun coordination exercises that will help you reach the goal of multitasking while in the saddle.

  • Tone upper body
  • Improve coordination
  • Stabilize core muscles
  • Challenge postural endurance
  • Engage mind-body connection

FAQ

Where do I start?

The choice is yours! But here's a little more information to help you decide:

The Mega Kit is our most popular item and most economical option (save $60 off the retail item price.) The kit includes our entire system, offers the most variety, and is the perfect choice if you’re the type to get bored doing the same exercises each day.

If you are looking for a single DVD to start with, we usually recommend the Level One. Within Level One, we offer beginner, intermediate and advanced positioning so there is a good range and most likely a variation to challenge your progress.

Also, some riders prefer to start with The Seated Workout especially if they are new to exercise, or recovering from an injury that makes floor work difficult. It is performed entirely while seated in a chair without any impact on the joints. But don’t be fooled- it’s a challenging workout. And there’s some fun coordination exercises here that will help you reach the goal of multitasking in the saddle.

I'm already very fit, should I jump to Level Two?

Level Two was designed as "an extension of the concepts introduced in Level One." The Level Two workout requires a more specified use of deeper muscle groups; therefore, the training and body isolations within Level One should be learned first.

How long does it take to move up the levels?

You don't have to be entirely proficient at Level One to cross train with Level Two. We'd like you to be familiar with Level One and perform the workout for a few weeks before you add Level Two into your program. The Seated Workout and The Express Toning Pak™ can be incorporated at any stage. The goal is to eventually cross train with all of the items in the program.

Is Equi-Stretch® based on Yoga or Pilates?

Equi-Stretch® was created as a sport specific training with riders at the source. Influenced by many systems, our method is a great cross trainer for riders who are already using Yoga or Pilates because it is complimentary without being repetitive.

Is Equi-Stretch® just for Dressage riders?

Our system is truly "cross discipline" which is a surprising claim since there are so many different methods of training in the horse industry. Equi-Stretch® is not intended to teach you how to ride, but rather designed to instruct you on how to practice your body isolations used in the saddle. With greater body awareness, you will be able to accomplish your riding goals, regardless of discipline.

How often should I use the program?

For best results, we recommend doing a 20-30 minute session, at least three times per week. In addition, Level One and Level Two are both edited into shorter sections with page indicators between them. These sections can be used as 10-minute mini workouts when time is a factor.
